Salty Frogs is an electric, powerful, original,
groovy, funky, energetic, Celtic fusion experience.
All four of us (Bronwen Beecher on fiddle/lead vocals,
Derrek Wright on electric guitar/back up vocals, Lisa
Marie on bass/back up vocals, and Mark Towner Williams
on drums/percussion/back up vocals) are professional
musicians who have dedicated our lives to music. From
Bronwen’s twenty-something years of classical
violin and attendance to Loyola University, New Orleans,
to Mark’s twenty years of road experience touring
with some of the biggest names in music history (we’re
talking Tina Turner and Crosby Stills and Nash here,
people!) Salty Frogs have the training and experience
of seasoned experts along with a passion for our instruments
and music our audience can experience first-hand at
every show!
We play original songs which Bronwen sings with everything
she’s got (usually by the end of a show she’s
a sweaty mess) along with some favorite covers like,
“Devil Went Down to Georgia,” “Whiskey
in the Jar” (Irish Free Bird), some Sinead O’Connor,
and even a little Metallica for fun. People love getting
their dance on to our ripping instrumentals featuring
Bronwen’s intricate fiddle skills and Derrek’s
soulful guitar. Then we strike a balance with heart-throbbing
slower songs and a Scottish Air that Bronwen plays a’cappella
which silences the crowd into an introspective awe every
time.
Did I mention the band is energetic? I mean, put Riverdance
in a blender with a nuclear reactor and some extra spicy
kung-pao and let ‘er rip! That’s us.
We call Derrek “Crave” because, while he’s
playing these soaring electric guitar lines, he stands
on his tip-toes with this touching look of joy and longing
on his face. Lisa Marie is long-time front singer, turned
hard-grooving bass playing creature. No one sings back
up vocals better.
